  1. I have a GoVideo model DVR4200 and the VCD I made will not play. I burned the VCD from a bin/cue using CDRWin. I made the bin with VCDEasy. I contacted SonicBlue tech support and they emailed back and said that the DVR4200 supports commercially produced VCD's. Any way around this so I can burn my own VCD's to play in my DVD player?

  2. First, make sure you VCD is playable on other box.
Second, tech support Email sounds like the one my buddy got from samsung (simply, NO), and Daiwoo play half way into movie then rollover and play dead.

Back to the first, before you got yourself a new player, make sure your VCD you created is a good one.

  3. I guess I wasn't clear. The GoVideo is my only DVD player.
I made the VCD on a CD-R, but haven't tried a CD-RW yet. I have made music CD's on CD-R's and they work just fine in the DVD player. The DVR4200 is supposed to play DVDs, music CDs and MP3s. The documentation doesn't say that it will play VCDs but tech support sys it will play commercially produced VCDs. It won't play VCDs that I have burned. The machine apparently recognized the VCD because the counter will be displayed but after a couple of seconds "Disk Error" will show in the display and the VCD will eject. Answers, suggestions anyone?

  4. you're clear.. probably I'm not. That was exactly Samsung DVD player said, and that was exactly Samsung DVD player does. "The documentation doesn't say that it will play VCDs but tech support sys it will play commercially produced VCDs. it plays home made music CD fine, just won't play home made VCDs" Let me take that back.. my buddy said, document say "support Video CD"

Even worst, Daiwoo said clearly on it's box saying "DVD/CD/VCD/SVCD/RW" but dead after 5-10 into movie, so returned was the option for my buddy few month ago.

  5. You could always try a few different brands of media. It might not make a difference, but it might.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  6. Is there any other solution? I have a Sharp DVD/VCD/CD/VHS player (I live in Japan) and the other day, a friend of mine brought her VCDs which she bought in Japan, that were made (i.e. pirated) in China. And they played perfectly. I tried playing a VCD I made with tmpgenc, vcdeasy, and fireburner and the machine simply turned off. Surely there's a way into making the VCD just like a commercial one, no?

  7. An update:

My DVD player will play audioCDRs burnt on the same media as my test VCD.

  8. Many DVD players will not play VCDs made on cdr, this is because a reflectivity issue, but if the play comercial VCDs they will also play VCDs made on CDR-W.

  10. It could be that your dvd player just won't play VCDs or is using the same system that certain Sony DVD players use. They lock out CD-R discs.

On my friend's Sony DVD player we can't get any VCDs to work on CD-Rs and they play fine in my computer. So we tried reburning the films onto CD-RWs @ 1x (god, it took half a year) and tried play back and it worked.

So burning too fast on a finicky system can have it's effects too.
