Try burning an audio CD and try playing that in your DVD player. If that doesn't work then your DVD player does not support CD-R.

Retail CDs, VCDs, and DVDs are pressed/stamped using very expensive, precise equipment, not burned on recordable media, and this ensures excellent compatibility in all players that support those formats.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  6. Try using a CD-RW instead of a CD-R. I had the same problem with my Sony, but a CD-RW worked. I later found out that CD-R's with the STI brand from Circuit City work great, because they have a higher reflective coating than most standard CD-R's. These CD-R's work great on my Sony with no problems.

The problem is in the way light is reflected back to the laser pickup. A regular pressed CD has pits and lands so when the laser hits a pit, the light is reflected away from the pickup. A CD-R uses coloured dye which is burnt (hence the term "burning a CD-R") to create a dark patch. When the laser hits the dark patch the light is blocked, simulating a pit.

The laser pickup in 1st gen DVD players only had one wavelength and since it relies on the ammount of light REFLECTED back, pressed CD's are not a problem since light is either reflected TO or AWAY from the pickup. However, the dye used in CD-R's just happens to be invisible to the laser used to read DVD's, so when you put a burnt CD into your DVD player all it "sees" is 100% reflectance and rejects it.

Newer DVD players can change the wavelength of their laser and can therefore read CD-R (and in most cases CD-RW as well).

Audio CD (Commercial) should work ?

Yep, most people see VCD and think great it supports them, but like said above the disks we make on CDR are nothing like commercial VCD's

"navigation computer dos not support cdr"
What does that mean ? Either you don’t have a CD writer, or you don’t have a CD-Rom

The trouble with saying that they wont work, is...

If there has been a modification and the player is still released with the same number, it can sometimes work, I don’t want to build your hopes up.

But if you used TMPGEnc with a PAL/NTSC template to make a VCD or a CDR\CDR-W on a good quality disk that is as best as you can do, if that don’t work nothing will.

How much would it cost to burn it original ?
They don't "Burn" them they press them, and I don't think they would be interested in making just one disk

You need to search around for "firmware" upgrades, you might get lucky
