  1. I need tips from all the bright minds out there. here is the problem
just got a new system put together- amd xp 2200, 512 ram, abit kx 333, 100gb, abit siluro geforce mx. when ever trying to convert from ati aiw captured avi format with the ati vcr installed on hd to wmv using media encoder 7.1 the system would freeze. also tried the following - virtualdub conversion using divx 502 from ati format avi file. system freezes with any sort of vid stream conversion. this has never happened before using 1ghz tbird, abit kt7a mb, and same hd. already installed direct x 8.1, newest via 4 in 1 driver, nvidia newest drivers, reinstalled win media encoder, still the system freezes immediately after a few frames on the media encoder.
I am very frustrated. it is time to upgrade to win xp or upgrade vid card will solve the problem. I am inclined to think that the prob is win 98 or software not hardware since it is brand new!! please help

Do you still have the ATI capture card and the codec's you used installed ?

  4. dear kingjohn, I copied the ati aiw captured avi files from a p450 system and try to convert the vid to wmv since it will be faster if it works at all. the new system [you can review my hdware configs] has a abit siluro geforce mx vid card installed, ati codec is installed and plays the vid just fine without hangup so codec incompatibility is not really the issue here I think. pls help thank you.

Well a few years ago I also used an ATI card to capture some home movies, I placed them on a CD as an AVI, well years later I started making VCD's and no longer had the ATI card. I sent an email to ATI, and they sent me a link to the codec's. When installed I was able to convert them. However the AVI did play in WMP

Sometimes things will play, but not a lot else, have you installed the Nimo codec pack, it does fix things, I know its not related to the ATI codec, but it may help. Other than that, perhaps an email to ATI, they are very good.

I see you used Divx 5.02, have you tried any others ?
