I have a large (813 Mb) mpeg SVCD file which I downloaded from the internet. The technical information supplied with the file is as follows:
format - NTSC Standard SVCD; file type - SVCD-ready MPG; bitrates - 1950 Kb/s 2-pass VBR, 224 Kb/s Audio; aspect ratio - letterboxed widescreen.
I can play the MPEG fine using any number of players, such as Windows Media Player and ATi File Player. However, I am completely unable to burn the file to DVD using my burner software, Mediostream NeoDVD Standard, when I select NTSC format.
The symptoms are that only the first few seconds are burnt and the "encoding" progress bar does not move, although the software seems to work its way through the file as the whole video is displayed in the preview pane and after half an hour or so I get a "success" message box. The problem occurs whether I am writing to a real DVD, or to the hard disc. The problem does not occur, strangely, if I select the PAL output option - in this case I get a playable DVD but because of the conversion process the video is a bit jerky. The problem does not occur with two other large NTSC mpegs I have.
I tried to follow the instructions on this site to convert the SVCD file to DVD format, but I got nowhere. Both DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc crash when I try to open any of my SVCD MPEGs.
So I guess I have three questions:
1. Why can't I burn the MPEG to disc in NTSC format?
2. What do I have to do to the file to make it burnable?
3. Why should DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc crash?
I'm running Windows XP.

First the mpeg is not dvd compatible at all u would need to demultiplex the mpeg and change the headerfile in dvd patcher then encode the audio to 48000khz 384bit in tmpgenc for instance. You need to patch the file caus any dvd software like spruce up will reject the file cause it's in svcd format 480*480 if it's nstc and 480*576 if it's pal source. Since your file is 480*480 u would need to patch it to 352*480 in dvd patcher and load the .m2v file to spruce up then making sure the audio is 48000khz and the same filename as the demuxed .m2v file and hepresto make the dvd in spruce up no reencoding.
