From my experience with using virtualdub for making DivX on one disc, I found that encoding at 720 bitrate is the maximum I can go for 2-hr long movie. Even at that bitrate, the resolution has to be reduced to 240 x 176 or lower to avoid blockiness. Can anyone suggest otherwise?

i did spiderman with divx5 and ogg audio
the audio was about 50mb
so video would be around your bitrate
512x384 resolution and it was fairly well, sharp at times but blocking occured during extremely high motion scenes, if i went to 400x300 it'd be good, 320x240 would be even smoother
