  1. Greetings

When I dl and ran VirtualDub for the first time this morning (I'm _finally_ getting around to making a VCD...), it reported that I had several "hacked binary codecs" on my system.

It mentioned 3 audio codec and 1 divX codec. Now, I recognise all of them as ones I did install to allow me to watch some movies on my PC in the past. I wonder, though, how much of a problem they will really cause?

Also, how do I get rid of these "bad" codecs and install the all the "correct" codecs I may need in my new adventures in VCD creation?

Many thanks in advance for a reply or pointer to a FAQ I haven't run across yet

    Regards,

ps: I also downloade dthe TMPGEnc application today. It says in the HOWTO that it is freeware, but the program tells me that it is a 30 day trial? I didn't get the "Pro" version download, so I am just curious...

    OK, ignore the warning

If you were to remove the "Hacked" codec's chances are you wont be able to view or edit anything. Its just something they put it to keep Microcrap happy

As for TMPGEnc, You can buy the plus version, or...

  3. I think I understand regarding the TMPGEnc...

I should have been more specific regardig the error, though. After the initial warnings that I had the 3 "bad" codecs installed, I received another seperate warning regarding my MPEG audio codec...

(I really should have written that info down; apologies...)

It indicated that it could cause problems because it is a badly written codec in addition to being a hacked binary.

What I am wondering now is if I should remove those codecs that I can, and then install the Nimo codec pack that is recommended from vcdhelp. I'm going by the assumption here that it is better to have some sort of consistency with the codecs...

    Again, TIA

If its referring to the SMR (Angel portion) yes get that off your system it is rubbish and you don't need it, so it might be that its talking about.
