  1. Does anyone know if there is a difference in the ability of a cdr/w burner to properly burn a vcd?
I have been toasting loads of cdr's that seem to burn vcd just fine, but they won' play on my dvd player (Toshiba). I know the player will play a vcd because I have done it, but it won't play the ones I burn. After I burn a vcd, I can see its directories on on my computer and they look ok. I can play the music01.dat or avseq01.dat file just fine on my computer, but I just get "disc error" when I put it in my dvd player. I have tried burning with nero 5, easy cd creator 5 platinum, cdrwin and all with the same result. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be?
    Thanks...Arnie

It's important to know if you're making the encode process right way. If yes, I saw in this site that some Toshiba models work on some CD-R media brands (not all brands). Go to "DVD Players" on left in this page(red column) and verify.
How do you make your encode process and what soft tool you use?
What's your DVD Player Unit model?

You may try a different type of CD-R or better a CD-RW.
Your player plays VCD, that does not mean, that it play CD-R as well.

I have tried EZCD 5 Platinum, Nero 5.0.2.2, CDRWin with VCDIMagerGUI and have burned on a WPI 4424 burner, using bulk CD-r light blue and silver. To encode the MPEG I have used Video Impressions and have also tried Adobe Premiere, using 320x280 ntsc 29.97 frame rate and added a *.wav file for sound. The DVD player is Toshiba 3109. I did get a cd-r that I had burned a few months ago to play, and the only thing that is different now is that I have a different burner and different brand of cd-r. Could those be critical in determining if a vcd will play or not?
    Thanks...Arnie

  5. Same problem here exactly.
Ricoh cdr/w, easy CD creator 4.
I had no problem under W98. Since I moved to W2K, cannot do it anymore. I can read on my PC the individual tracks that I have burnt, but no VCD player will read. If I find a solution I will let u know.

  6. I am also having a problem with playing the CD's. I capture VHS with dazzle dvc II card. Encode with Easy CD 5.0 Platinum. Burns fine no errors. When I play it on my Sony DVP-S530D it plays with blocks on it. Can see about 1/3 the image the rest is "digital blocks". Audio sounds good. Use Imation CD-RW's. Please any suggestions. Burner is Yamaha fire wire.

  7. After considering the comments above, I did some checking and I now believe that the problem is in the DVD player, a Toshiba 3109. The comments about that machine describe the same problems that I have been having. I will probably get a new player...thinking about the Pioneer 343.

  8. I went to the DVD player section and read the comments on my Toshiba 3109. They suggested
that this player is notoriously picky and that only Sony cdrw-650 and Princo CDR would work.
I tried the sony cdrw-650's and THEY WORKED!!!!!. I also tried some generic cd-r that I had acquired a long time ago, labelled as PRIME and THEY ALSO WORKED! yeah!!!
Now I can put off buying a new dvd player. I hope this info helps someone.
