If the audio is in sync in the avi, most, if not all, sync problems are caused by omitting the step Select under Audio->Full processing mode.

  5. Some dvd players (mine for example) won't play NSTCFilm VCDs very well. 23.9 fps is that type of VCD. Most dvd rips on the net are in this format sadly. Read the guide in the CONVERT section on how to conver from 23.9 to 25 fps(PAL), that is what i do. I'm not picky, so i think it looks pretty damn good. I haven't really tried this yet, but just extracting the wav file with virtual dub and converting the avi and wav to mpeg with the PAL template might work. I don't know if this would make the file out of sync but it might work.

I do change all the NTSC(film) DivX I find now to PAL before converting to other formats. I just change the framerate in VirtualDub and shrink the audio in Sound Forge. It works perfectly.

  7. My player plays 23.9 fps but it duplicates 1 frame every second to have 25 PAL , but it results in non smooth video
And i tried to do 23-> 25 in vdib but the audio gets progressive out of sync

how do you shrink the wav in soundforge Banjazzer ?
Tried several times but had to give up.
Is there another way to frameserve (avisynth ?) this problem rather than
    convert everything ?

When you alter the framerate in Virtualdub, save the avi, no audio, and note the new time. Load the uncompressed wav into Soundforge. Select entire wav. Process>Time stretch. All you do is input the final time to match your new time for the video. I use mode=A02.Music 2 which suits me, and untick *create undo*. Finally save the altered wav.

Only once did I get a sync problem, but this was then adjusted in TMPG.

  9. mmmmm...maybe I'm just lucky but ,when I aquire a DIVX that requires convertion,I leave it as is (FILM,NTSC,PAL) and my cheapie GE DVD player plays them all.
I have over 200 movies and they all play and work just fine..
    Am I a lucky one?

It varies from player to player. If you have a forgiving player, the best policy is to use the exact template to match the source framerate.
