  1. i'm using a dell w/ all the latest bells, including a phillips dvd+rw. i've been trying to follow the dvd2dvdr guide but am running into trouble at the rempeg part. what values do i need to take from the bitrate calculator and which scale do i need to apply them to (do they need to be exact)? my dvd is 1hr52mins and 20 secs long. i've tried to do it many times, but i'm doing something wrong. then when i open spruce up it give me an aspi error (i'm not sure what to do about this), but will allow me to operate the program. i know that the ac3 file should import w/ the rempeged m2v file, but if i actually play the movie clip within spruce shouldn't i be able to hear the sound? sorry for all the questions and the ones i will have in the future but i'm stuck. the guide is not specific enough for a newbie like me. thank you. also if there is a different guide and software that you would recommend, i'd love to know about it. thx.

  2. If you are using the mad DVD bitrate calculator the bitrate to use is in the bottom box after typing in movie length and desired filesize,

    112 min movie - 0 multilanguage stream - file size 3800mb = 4632 K/Bits bitrate

Then set the slider in the top left of the options page in rempeg to as close as you can get it to your bitrate ie 4632 K/Bits without going over it.

this should then produce a file just under the size you required.

to solve the spruce-up aspi error download this and run instaspi.bat

    http://www.sttng.demon.co.uk/forceaspi17.zip

this will install the correct aspi drivers.

Lastly when you import your .m2v and .ac3 files into spruce-up make sure they have the same name ie. movie.m2v and movie.ac3 if they import ok you will have a little icon of a speaker in the corner of the imported movies box showing that it imported the sound as well

    hope this helps

  3. After loading and processing the .cffl file in rempeg2, go back to the Main tab and you will see the "Input file" section filled out. This will tell you the length in seconds of the movie and the average bitrate. For the rest of the information I just open up Windows Explorer, highlight the appropriate files (Main movie VOB's=just the title set VOB's of the main movie, Extra's=everything else going on the DVD), then right-click on them and select "Properties". This will give you the size in bytes of the selected files (I use the size on disk for a little extra padding).

When you play the imported movie clip in spruceup, you should hear the sound.

  5. hi guys, i hate to say it but i'm back. i ran the suggested force aspi program and i now seem to have problems with my dvd-rom drive. when i put a dvd in, intervideo will open but will not play the disc. do i need to tweek my preferences or remiove the force aspi(if so how do i remove it)? i ran the bitrate calculator for my dvd which is 112mins 20 secs long. the values i get are calculated avg bitrate of 5048 and dvd max bitrate of 9186. when i go to rempeg the scale is in kbs, so i'm assuming that i set the scale to 5,048,000 which is off the chart. supposing the avg bitrate i got was 4028, then i should set the scale to 3,994,000(closest setting below my value) which is 81%, yes? do i need to concern myself w/ the lmt max bitrate option and set it to 9184?
the next problem i run into is w/ spuce up, which is a trial version, should i obtain the full version and if so where would you recommend i get it? when i open spruce i get an app. error 17236 - unable to initialize the aspi manager. it does allow me to proceed but when it tries to import my ac3 file it tells me that ac3 is not supported on the trial version and thus will not be audible. the speaker does show up within the movie window, but when i run simulation there is no sound.
for anyone that does help me, thank you very much. sorry for all the questions but i just cannot find a comprehensive guide. thanks again.
