Here's the deal. My player (Sony DAVS300) seems to only like bitrates up to around 2300-2500. I have spent a lot of time creating VCD's and more recently perfecting XVCD's. Here's my info

480x576 (PAL)
CQ method set at 90
Bitrate max 2400
Bitrate min 1500
Audio at 128K
Toolame and SSRC external tools

Now I know that my player does not do SVCD but I also know that I could create a SVCD and then alter the header to try to get it to play on my player.

My question is:

Seeing as Im already using SVCD res and the bitrate is as high as my player will go, what advantage would I have in using MPEG2 rather than MPEG1 ?

P.S Im not planning on doing subs or additional audio streams or such like. Im only interested if the picture quality is better under MPEG2

cheers
