Why can't my TDK 24/10/40 burn 600MB containing 30000 files?

Why can't my TDK 24/10/40 burn 600MB containing 30000 files?
(29460 to be exact)

These are small files, ranging from 2k up to 100k... (GIF, JPG, MID
& some PDF)

I use both Nero and EasyCD Creator. (both most recent versions)
The computer is a single-chip AMD AthlonXP 2100, 512MB DDR RAM.
The 7200rpm IDE IBM hard drive is the only IDE device on channel 0,
while the TDK burner is on channel 1 by it self.

When I drag the files (in 20 folders) to the burning programs,
the files will slowly be compiled, but half way there, the computer hangs.
I've tried this on other computers.... same thing...


Any advice appreciated.

16 bit vs 32 bit file handling will cause this ... basic crappy software i mean .. this happens to a lessor degree erven in win2k that ive seen .. when ive had single folders with more than 24,000 files in them .. things slow to a crawl, but do list out after a time ..

Will dragging one folder at a time into into the program for burning queue change anything?
