  1. I wanted to edit my DV video. I can send it to computer and cut out the parts I don't like and I want to put it back to dv. Will I loose quality? If not, can you tell me how to do this? I have Adobe Premeir 6.

To answer your first question, no you won't lose any quality doing what you describe. But *only* if you cut parts out. If you start adding effects (transitions, fades, etc) your authoring software will need to "create" the new frames of video. Any frame of video that has no effect added should be copied back to your DV cam without modification.

For your second question, I would suggest you do the following (in no particular order)

    1. Read the manual. You have one, don't you?
    2. Read the guides found here, many of them are very informative.
    3. Try using a search engine (Yahoo,, etc) to locate other online tutorials.
    4. Buy a "Howto" or "Bible" book (really a last resort, its hard to tell in the bookstore what is going to be helpful).

Put some effort into your endeavor, you might even learn something.

  3. There is a little Worm...

You will loose quality. But only if you don't capture with 24bits RGB. Which allmost no PC can handle. What I mean is, you will need to use a Video Codec, if you don't want I huge video file. But the good news is, you won't see the quality loss.

Another thing is, if you don't want to loose any quality you should use the Resolution 720 x 576 in PAL. Otherwise you will small down your frame size and get quality loss.

But don't worry. If you have a good capture card and you can capture in a got frame size, you won't realize anything

elysium, starstreak is not asking about capturing, he is asking about copying video from his DV cam to his PC and back via firewire (only way I know to "copy" from a DV cam).

Yes, the video files will be huge (18GB+/hour), but there will be no loss of quality if all he does is edit scenes out.

Several people here have tested the quality question by copying a video from a DV cam to a PC and back multiple times. Guess what? The final copy is bit for bit the same as the original, which would not be possible if the video as captured.
