  1. Hello there!
I've been trying to burn a DVD for a week now with no success. This is what happens: the process starts normally and after a while it is aborted with this message:
Failed to record data to the CD
    [Code DVDR-DAO-ASPI-2A-04-04-08-01]

Then I check the DVD contents and realize the right folders and a big file with ALMOST the same size of the ISO file, just a few hundreds of kbytes missing.
It plays on the DVD set but only the first 1-3 minutes.
    Can anyone help?
Thanks for any hints at all.
    Marcos

  2. Try disabling UDMA (use PIO mode)

  3. Ok, I've done that - no use! It's using now PIO 4. I also disabled DMA in Windows. No use. Now I've just tried to burn with MyDVD. No use either. The message reported is:

    "Could not complete the last command because: Device Error - Sense Code(4 08 01) - Logical Unit Communication Time-Out - General(DVDErr, 264193)"

    Heeeelp!!

  4. OK.....is your A04 set to master? It needs to be master, and the other drive on that eide channel slave (presuming there is one).

  5. Hi,
Yes, it's set to master and it's the only drive on the IDE channel. Now I've just tried to burn with MyDVD. The error message was:

    "Could not complete the last command because: Device Error - Sense Code(4 08 01) - Logical Unit Communication Time-Out - General(DVDErr, 264193)"

    A bug magnet, me??

    Thank you once again!
    Marcos.

  6. I've not used MyDVD......have you tried with Prassi? I kept getting the communication error - apparently a well known problem with the 104/a04 - solved by using PIO and setting to master. Not really sure what else to suggest.....what media are you using (yes, I am grabbing at straws here!)

What are you burning and what method are you using (ie are you ripping from dvd, and authoring, etc?)

  7. What OS are you using?
I had tons of problems with WinMe and communications timeout errors with the DVR-104.

  8. THANK YOU ALL!! - Problem solved!
Well, this is silly, but it was MY fault, really.
I mean, Emanef was right (thank you!), all I had to do was to disable DMA and use only PIO. Yes, I had done it but I hadn't noticed that the Setup program put it back again to its default values because I did not change the mode from "default" to "user defined". That was it. Now it's burning DVDs nicely.
    Thank you again!
Now, moving on to solve another problem (in another forum). The noise in the captured video...

    Greetings from Brazil.

  9. Excellent! Glad you solved it!

....and congrats on winning the world cup! (I'm English.....we all have a soft spot for Brazil, the masters of football..... !)

Doesn't TMPGenc have a noise reduction facility, btw....?

  10. Marcos, I have a question, cause I was having the same problem in my system, and I was getting the same error codes in MyDVD, too. Does your motherboard have a VIA, or AMD/VIA hybrid chipset on it? MY Epox 8K-7A does, and, apparently, that's where the problem lies, in my case, at least. I narrowed it down to the onboard IDE controller. Apparently, the DVR-104 and A04 doesn't like to play with other components on the same IDE channel on these systems. My guess, since you had similar issues, is that you have a VIA chipset, and was running something else on the same IDE channel. Am I right? I solved it by running a seperate IDE controller card in my system for my DVD burner. Bear in mind, this was BEFORE I read about how YOU solved your problem. Just a little info. for ya. Never hurts to better understand how our systems work, right?
