  1. Is it possible to convert to CVD using CBR? All guides use VBR or 2-pass VBR and my standalone player (Philips DVD-711) can't handle VBR encoded discs. According to the player list the DVD-711 can handle all Video-CD formats, but the only format that works perfect is VCD. XVCD doesn't work properly. If i convert a file to XVCD my player will recognize it as VCD, but won't play good. Same with XSVCD.

Is CVD the same as XVCD?

    Help me out.

CVD is basically just a SVCD but with 352x480/576 resolution instead of 480x480/576.

Your dvd player does seem to play vcds and svcds, at least other people have had success with those formats. Did you read all those user comments? Philips dvd players are very strict about compliance. If your movies aren't playing correctly its probably because you didn't encode/author them correctly. Make sure you aren't using too high of a bitrate. VBR should work perfectly.

To answer your question, yes you can use CBR or VBR in a CVD or a SVCD. If you think about it CBR is nothing more than VBR with min, max, and avg all set to the same number.
