  1. A "Toshiba SD220E" where you bought the item from. As I am seeming to have some trouble finding it on online stores. However, I havent been able to look in the local stores - ie: Best Buy & Circuit City -. Any help would be much appreciated. 8)

  2. Just a thought, but I'm not sure if the Toshiba 220E is being produced anymore. I had to scour loads of electrical stores before I found one and they told me it was the last one in stock and they were not recieving anymore units after that.

I'm not sure about that, it's just an educated guess but it's never a good sign when something is so hard to get hold of (although it was definitely worth the search). Maybe try contacting Toshiba themselves?

Also I live in the UK so maybe that situation is just over here.

  3. Well that bites. That DVD player had all of the functions I was looking for, and very few bad replies by users on top of that.

I like the Toshiba brand, and does anyone know of any other Toshiba players that have all the qualities of the SD220E (VCD, SVCD, XVCD, DCD-R, CD-R, and of course, great picture quality)?

p.s. I am aware of the compatability list and have browsed through it several times.

  5. Well, if it wouldnt be too much trouble, would you please try and play a SVCD and an XVCD, and tell me of the results? And is the picture quality excellent, when playing all types of VCD's, DVD's, and such?

Pretty please with sugar on top!

  6. Sure I will try to make a short svcd to test. I hope my TMPGenc Mpg2 30 trial isnt over . But I have never made an Xvcd and I don’t know how to make one. Can I do one with TMPGenc?

I have VirtualDub 3.something (the one for asf) and TMPGenc the last one for XP is that enough?

About the picture quality I don’t now much but downloaded stuff like cams (from [TMD] etc.) don’t look so well but they never do. I made a VCD from a DVD I rented and it looks cool to me. About DVD it looks ok I think it looks better than the other DVDs I have but maybe my other DVD is on a crappy TV. The box says it have color stream, 10 bit, 27Mhz video DAC and enhanced pictures mode and it even have zoom for DVD which are cool if u don’t want to see the letter box (useful with some guest who doesn’t understand that widescreen have more picture area than 4:3 ) But it needs more testing cuz I just bought it like 3 days a go and I haven’t got a chance to watch a whole movie.

  7. Here's a guide to making XVCD's with TMPGEnc :
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencxvcd.htm

and here's another reference that you can use as well:

Oh, and the stuff that you downloaded with the [tmd] label usually isnt of great quality, and most likely the [tmd] label indicates movies that havent been released to the general public (US public) in the DVD format. If I were you, I would either go onto IRC and search around for willing people to share DIVx's with, or use a peer-to-peer file sharing program and downloaded DIVx's. These are just guidelines that I go by, if you dont like them, you dont have to use them :P .

Once again, thank you for doing this!

P.S. I will not be available to check back on this topic until at least Tuesday night, because I am going to go to a 50th anniversary dinner, and such, and I am leaving today at 8 am. Sorry for the inconvienence.

  8. Ok I made some research and now I now what a XVCD is (a mod VCD non-compliant). But I have bad news I made a one minute movie from TMD sum of all fears in SVCD and burned it on a CDRW (to save my CDRs) and it didn’t work. I guess if SVCD doesn’t work then XVCD won’t work either. Maybe I should try a CDR cuz the CDRW I used is kind of crappy but it did work on Power DVD so I did it right and it works. Now I’m tired so I will make some other test on the weekend if I have time and I will post the results here.

  10. Well I had some time to test my DVD. I have tried some VCD (on CDR and CDRW) they worked great with good audio quality and picture. It looks like it doesn’t like SVCD. But I had an old VCD with some music videos which I think they were non-compliant and it played them ok (it’s that an XVCD?). Anyway u now where I can find a XVCD template for TMPGenc so I can test that playback?

  11. all you have to do for XVCD templates is click on your format after clicking the load button (NTSC or PAL) and then load that. and then when you are done with that, go to load again, and click on the extras folder located in the template window. once in there, click on unlock.cmf or something like that. after that, you go to settings - system, and then on the combo box in the system window, click and scroll down to MPEG-1 VCD on-standard. from there you make all of the modifications to the bitrate and audio.
