I created an MPEG2 file with TMPGEnc and I can't get it to play with QuickTime 5 player. I am encoding straight from an avi file that I edited (and created myself) and I used the newest version of TMPGEnc (2.56 I think). When I try to open it with QuickTime it gives me ther error message "could not load the file because a software component needed by the movie could not be found". It wouldn't have anything to do with the file extension would it?

QT 5 does not play MPEG2 files! To play them you need Videolan or similar software.

In order to view an MPEG-2 file (in Quicktime) you need to upgrade to QT 6 and purchase the MPEG-2 component for $20 from Apple's site. It's available for both Mac and PC.
