I looking to buy either a HP dvd200 or Sony DRU120. Not sure which is better but my main question is does anyone know if there is a benefit of using either USB 2.0 or Firewire rather than IDE?
Internal (IDE) is cheaper but maybe there is a performance factor going with the external devices. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Doug...

Get a Pioneer DVR-104 (AO4) instead (they're down to $240 now, too). You'll regret it, if you get the DVD+RW format, since it is not an official standard supported by the DVD Forum (see http://www.dvdfllc.co.jp/mess.htm#notice). Currently, it seems everything is headed in the direction of DVD Multi (DVD-R/-RW/RAM). Also, stick with IDE and put it as its own device. Unless, you don't have any free IDE connectors left, then throw it in an external firewire enclosure (make sure it uses the Oxford911 chipset or better).

DVD+RW is an officially announced and supported DVD recordable format standard by DVD+RW Alliance which is composed of some of the leading manufacturers in the industry such as Philips, Sony, HP, Yamaha, and several others. -
Don't listen to Kenny. He's the in-house village idiot / Troll of the Year around here.
Go with the A04, you won't regret it.

Listen to everyone. I would wait a while before I decide what to choose...dvd-r/dvd-rw seems to be the best...cheapest media...

However, I do agree with Baldrick's advice. Before making a purchasing decision, be sure check to out the DVD FAQ here - http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#4.3

You have no right to bash good technologies and forums dedicated to those technologies simply because you do not want DVD+RW to have more market share and you do not like the DVD+RW format standard.

I'm completely indifferent to DVD-R/W vs. DVD+R/W and as long as Kenny or any other member posts appropriately (no large irrelevant images, truthful information, read the forum rules) that is fine with me.
If you have a personal gripe with Kenny, do it privately please.
