When you "burn" them to CD, what is on the CD? Do you have the 3-4 folders on the CD with the .dat file containing the video? If so, it is possible that your standalone DVD player does not support VCD playback or a facsimile thereof.
There are different packages out there for burning to CD for playback on a DVD player (after answering the above questions, it may be a moot point), however, the main players from what I have seen (and use) on the forum is NERO(my software), CD creator, and VCDEASY. This is all in the PC and not mac world (I think the NERO equivilant is Toast, but not sure). Nero takes and mpg file and converts it to VCD automatically. There are plugins to Nero that do the SVCD (or a version of it with standard compliance turned off). -

From what you have given me to work with, the files are not VCD/SVCD compliant.
I believe you can download nero from www.nero.com
If that doesn't work, try to do a search (you can use www.google.com and search for keyword "nero")
But, this may not be the answer to what you are wanting to do. Let me know if you are downloading music (mp3's). I'm a little confused by what you are downloading. -
my friend i use mpeg files of vcds for songs and movies as well as video capturing , as guided bye u i went on the nero site but got confused,
can u tell me which nero file i should down load for my purpose.

Please take note of the format in pixels of the files you downloaded. If you are in a PAL region NTSC formatted video may not work on your player and vice versa. If the videos are 352x288 pixels (PAL) and will not play, try converting them to 352x240 (NTSC). If the videos are 352x240 and will not play, try converting them to 352x288 (PAL). Just follow the guides here at VCDHelp.com - I prefer VCDEasy to Nero for making VCDs.
