  1. Hello
Complete newbie here, so please be kind

I have been sent a video that needs editing.
The file was in WMV format, so I converted it to AVI.
This process went without any problems, I have tested the AVI and everything is fine, it plays all the way through and the sound is perfect.
I then needed to chop a bit off the beginning and the end, I used VirtualDub latest version.
I set the markers then Saved As.
This process also appeared to go perfect, I tested the end result, it plays perfect, BUT, I lose sound about 5 minutes into the video, I have no idea what so ever why this is happening.
I have repeated the process several times, same result each time, except I lose the sound at different times, but all normally between 5 and 7 minutes into the video.

Any ideas as to why or what is causing this ?

That's a little strange. What's the format of the file, video and audio? I'm guessing Xvid/Divx and MP3 audio? AVI is just a container name, it doesn't tell much of anything about the file.

Have you tried running the problem file through VD again, using Direct stream copy for the video and audio? That sometimes fixes them.

Also, what program are you using to play it back on? Try VLC as it may tell you if it's a codec issue if it plays properly.

Also check to see what VD reports for the audio/video lengths. Or drop it into Gspot 2.70 and see if it sees a problem. Most often what you describe may be caused by corrupted frames or a corrupted audio file. That shouldn't happen with just simple editing, though. If your audio was MP3 VBR or AC3, then that might cause problems.

In VD you can also scroll through the file to the area where there is a problem, then use the arrow keys to step through one frame at a time. I'm guessing you will find something broken.

    And welcome to our forums.

  4. I have run the video through Gspot.
    The codec is Xvid.
I have played the video using VLC and it plays perfect !

So I am guessing everything is OK ?
I was using WMP to play the video, suppose I should of known better lol .

I now need to upload this to the server so our forum members can view it online.
