  1. Got a cheap old TV for the kids playstation, it has Coax only so I used an RF modulator to connect the playstation and PC. Original idea was also to play SVCD from the computer on the TV, but playback is of very low quality. Same ATI card in other PC, not using an RF modulator, gives good playback on a different, 27" TV.

Playstation and Windows look OK, cartoon SVCD look ok also. I had reset screen colors to 256 to play one of their games, and at first thought this was the problem, but when I set colors back to max the video did not improve all that much.

DVD played from the Playstation looks OK, so it doesn't seem as though the RF box can't pass good looking video, perhaps it is a "lossy" converter and the DVD's have quality to spare and the SVCD's don't?

My goal here is to reclaim the adult TV by giving the kids their own to watch movies on, any help appreciated.

  2. Just an update, connected PC to TV with Composite-in, Picture much better but not quite as good as DVD player (using CVD).

Probably a new topic but would using the new software VCD player on the playstation be worth the hassle?

I guess I should try running a CVD on the DVD thru the RFM, OK? Couldn't think of any more acronyms for this SNAFU.

  3. Another update, why I didn't think of this I don't know, but connected using VCR as pass-thru to Coax, some improvement. This removed the large dark band artifact of the RF modulator, picture quality is somewhat better.

BUT - There is noticable pixelation and color loss, which was not visible when viewing on TV with Composite Connector thru ATI TV-out, APEX DVD to TV looks even better.

The PS2 media player requires a $40.00 Gameshark, I'm thinking save that for a $120 to $200 TV with Better Connections, and better picture to boot.

Anybody else have any experiences in this area?
