i need your help to get a program to capture tv shows on my computer using ATI ALL IN WONDER 128 pro

i used ati multimedia center 7.1 but i didn't like its quality

  2. Upgrade to MMC 7.7. But for good quality always cap to AVI first and then encode to MPEG. ATI cards use CPU power for MPEG captures and they have not a separate MPEG encoder chip so you need a fast CPU for direct MPEG capture otherwise frame drop and quality loss is predicted!

  3. I've had loads of problems using ATI MMC to capture. Now I use Ulead DVD Movei Factory, I capture in MPEG-2 at a very high bitrate (about 5000 - 8000) and it looks great. Then I just re-encode using TMPGenc and burn my finished video to dvd-r
RealaT Bytes, but that's what life is.

  4. Thanx both for your fast replying

thanx Mr.Pied-Piper for your advice but when i went to http://www.ati.com
    i found only MMC 7.1

regarding AVI capturing...i must have alot of free space on my hard disk ...i feel it is very difficult to use this method to capture shows for about one hour
    ==============
thanx Mr.RealaT...i ll try your method today if a didn't find MMC 7.7

by the way..where can i download those software in full versions from ???

Am I free to ask you some question if i faced problems with your method??

  6. I have a problem feeding the mpeg into TMPGenc myself but with me it would always crash the program.

What I do is load the captured mpeg into DVD2AVI and then 'save project' in that. You are then left with a .d2v file and a .wav file, these are the video and audio that i use to re-encode.
RealaT Bytes, but that's what life is.

    Folks,

I have recently upgraded to Windows XP Professional and to MMC 7.1. I like to capture .avi and then off-line encode to mpeg or another format. My problem is that MMC 7.1 allows a maximum of 000x240 whereas MMC 6.3 let me capture AVIs at 000x480 if I wanted. Will upgrading to MMC 7.7 cure this problem and if so where can I download it? Ati's website will only point to MMC 7.1. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I hate to answer a question with a question, but this is for Pied-Piper. It was my understanding that MMC 7.7 would only work on a Radeon based chipset especially since the last officially released driver for the ATI AIW 128 pro was back on October 22, 2001 and doesn't include the necessary capture support for MMC 7.7. I'm interested on how you found a workaround since I have another computer using that exact card. If you would post a reply here or you could e-mail me at john_16508@yahoo.com. Any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

  9. I have a AIW 128Pro and just installed MMC7.7 and it works fine. MMC7.7 is listed under RADEON. First you need to install 7.6 and then upgrade to 7.7. The new version lets you capture SVCD 480x480 as well. And you can create your own profiles. I am using Win2000 so I don't know if it works well under ME and XP.

  10. I use 7.7 with a AIW 128
I use the latest capture drivers listed for the Radeon -
NOT THE VIDEO DRIVERS - The Rage theater chip in the all
of the AIW will capture with these drivers

Not MMC. Use VirtualDub. You need to have a little bit more power under the hood of your PC, figuratively, but with that aside, it's going to give you far better captures.

With at least a 1.2gHz system, 512mb RAM, and 7200 rpm hard drives, you can capture uncompressed at any resolution with vdub, and you can divx on the fly at lower resolutions as well. As speed goes up, so does capability.

I have used VirtualDub when I had Win 98SE installed on my system. I've heard that VirtualDub doesn't work well (or at all) with Win XP. Is there another application out there similar to VirtualDub (free or cheap)? I love it for post processing. Those filters just can't be beat. Thanks as always folks.

I have used V-dub with perfect results in Win2k, WinXP Home, and WinXP Pro (Corporate). The current version of V-dub, which many claim to be a video-for-windows only program here on the net, DOES in fact use the WDM architecture capture driver sets. Trust me, it works just fine.

The older V-dub that a lot of people are using because ASF/WMV still works in it, however, might not work well in XP for that very reason. For ASF/WMV, we mise well just use TMPGenc, really.

I have a AIW 128 16Mb (not the Pro) PCI card, and cannot get any avi captures better than 352x288(PAL). Is it possible with other drivers etc?? I have tried MMC 7.2, 7.6 and all the freeware software VCR's. I also tried the AIW Radeon capture drivers as stated in this post, should I try others??
