After running into problems with ripping "The Animal" with SmartRipper, then doing a search in the ripping forum to see that I wasn't the only one with problems, I thought I'd tell you how I overcame them.
To rip the film to use as a VCD was easy, just use DVDdecrypter instead of SmartRipper.
To solve the problem of getting a "m2v" file and an "ac3" file to use in SpruceUp I went about it like this (ain't got the brains for Ifoedit).
Using DVDdecrypter again to rip the movie files, this time I selected the option to merge the vobs into one, then I opened VobEdit and selected the "Demux tab, then demuxed the vob first to an mpeg "m2v" file and then demuxed again this time selecting to demux the audio to an "ac3" file, then renamed the output files the same.
This got me back to where I needed to be as far as getting my files into SpruceUp and I'm burning the results as I type ( I like to write a "TITLE_SET" and burn with Nero.
Hope this helps somebody if they run into THE ANIMAL
Cheers
Chris.

Hell !, I've been going round the houses.
Just been reading the DVDecrypter guide again and it includes stream processing itself. Just right click in the box where your movie files are selected and select stream processing.
Oh well I suppose you learn a little more every day.
