Am I missing a codec for an avi for DX50?

I downloaded all of the WMV episodes of The Osbournes, but ironically Part 6 was an hour long and is in avi format. There is the mpeg version on the download list, but me being on dial up, that will take 3 days or so to finish, I would rather work with the avi one since it's already completed.
I'm trying to make it into an Mpeg-1 format, and have used TMPG to extract the audio using the avi into an mpg format, but it won't open the avi then for the video half.
I can't open it up with TMPG or Virtua Dub, in VD I get the error "can't locate the decompressor for dx50. VD requires a video for windows codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those for Media Player are not suitable.

yes u are...go to http://www.divx.com/divx/index.php and download the new Divx 5.0.2. It's a bundle with a divx player and new codec. If you just want to dl only the codec you can specify this in the setup. Once loaded it will automatically attach to WMP and your file will open.
