    I was wondering whether or not it would be possible to convert to audio from a captured .avi file to .mp3 format to reduce file size

    any help would be appreciated

  4. Try this:

    Open the avi in virtual dub. Set the video to Direct Stream Copy (so it won't re-encode it, no need to re-encode anyway). Set the audio to Full Processing Mode. Under compression, select your MP3 codec and the bitrate of your choice.

    Save as a new avi file. That's it.

  7. Try it this simple way:

    Open the avi in VirtualDub. Chose "file">>"save wav..">>save name of choice. Now you have a wav-file created from the avi. There are many (freeware) tools to convert your new WAV to MP3.
