  1. I have a Panasonic DVD-RP56 which says it plays VCD's (not SVCD's specifically) and I have had some luck with SVCD's playing in them. Now however, all I get is a 'stuttered' movie. If I use the fast forward button, it looks a bit better but the sound is not in sync. I can play this cd in my computer DVD player but the quality does not appear to be good although it is not as bad as my standalone player
Any clues about what I could do would be appreciated.
I prefer mpeg2 files since they are cleaner.

  2. you said you had some luck playing SVCD's.. are you trying to play these same discs (that did work) again?

If so.. and they aren't working now.. something's up with your DVD player!

  3. What burning software are you using?
Nero 5.5.4.2 had an encoding bitrate option but Nero 5.5.9.0 had it removed.
Now people who used to mkae great SVCDs are making stuttering ones.

  4. I was using Nero 5.5.8 and just upgraded to 5.5.9. But the SVCD I have that works was done in 5.5.8. VCD's seem to work fine but I like the quality of SVCD's.
My DVD player is fine. The cd I have that was done in 5.5.8 still works fine in my player. I made both cd's the exact same way. The only difference is the one that does not work well is only 18 minutes long while the one that works is 30 minutes long.
    I'll keep trying.
    Thanks for your help.

  5. Are you using Nero to encode to SVCD? If so, use TMPGenc for the encoding and just burn with Nero.

  6. I had the same problem. Also my DVD player was reading my VCD's/SVCD's as mode 1. The fix? I cleaned the lenses with a DVD cleaner. Now everything is fine
