i just bought my dvd player (Apex AD-1500) and i was just wondering if you can play dvd movies in full screen?? On a VHS, the movie is formated for your tv, but why not for a dvd?? I know that the two black blocks are there so that you can see the movie as it was in theaters but these black blocks really bother me. Putting on a 2x zoom helps but the quality of the picture is worse. Help?? Comments??

As you said this is done to recreate the theater experience.
The only way to get it to fill the whole screen as far as I know, would be to buy a widescreen TV.

some DVDs have both original and 4:3 video on them. try looking in a 'video setup' menu for "pan & scan" or whatever. some have this on the back side of the disc almost like a separate movie.
