    Doesn't that require a mod chip? (hardware, that is)

    does not exist. there was one released, but it is not a VCD player. it lets you play PSS files, which are 640x488 (variations) MPEGII files. you will need a modchip or swap trick to play them since it will be on CD-R and use some pool game as the basis of build.

    more than positive. it is just named Jade PS2 VCD, not really a VCD player.
