  1. Hey ppls
ok i have to make some copies of some vcds my friend gave me but i dont have 2 cd drives on the same computer
so im making an image with cdrwin and hten im burning it with nero

When i load the original cd, cdrwin detects 3 tracks each with data/mode2
However when i load the burnt cds cdrwin detects 3 tracks with track1 having data/mode0 with tracks 2 and 3 having data/mode2

While the cds are playable on vcd player and computer this makes them impossible to make copies off because cdrwin says the first track is of illegal format.

Is there any way to fix it? (i looked at the cue files that were made and htey all state to burn the tracks as data/mode2)

  2. hmm.. I'm not a cdrwin fan (although I was one of the orig. supporters way back when it was called cd dao) so I'd use CloneCD to copy an
    image to your hard drive.

  3. thx

    maybe i will use it

actually im thinking of just dragging the dat files to the comp
and then just using nero to make vcd
that should avoid all the problems i hope

I am not sure why you are making an image of a VCD with CDRWin and then using Nero to burn the image. CDRWin should do it fine.

If you want to create another VCD from the .dat file, you should run it through VCDGear first to create the .mpg, or rename the .dat to .mpg and then multiplex it using TMPGEnc's mpeg tools. Then you can burn to VCD with Nero.

Say, why not pretend you have two drives select the source and destination to be the same, then when its finished reading in the disk it will say "Insert blank disk" before writing

  6. heh thats a good idea kingjohn =)

Im making an image of the vcd with cdrwin because im not sure of how to make images wiht nero. And my cdrwin is in demo mode so it can only burn at 2x while nero can go at 10 (i use 6 tho...)

i can copy the dat file to hdd and then use nero to make a vcd out of that and that avoids problems
but the only side affect is the little bits of corruption which occur
so when the burnt vcd is played, in certain parts the screen goes all screwed for a millisecond. And it always has the knack of stuffing up in good parts

Any reason as to why nero burns the first track as data/mode0 tho? i dont get it cos the cue specifies mode2...

I don't get this at all, If you tell any CD copying program to do a disk to disk (Including Nero) you just place the VCD in the drive and select copy.

After it has read in the contents it will ask for a blank disk. Nero even ejects the disk that's in there and asks for a blank.

No need to mess around converting and making a VCD from scratch...

Dont make an image !!, just use disc copy, the program will make a temp image...

CloneCD uses it's own soft error correction which is why it
is the answer to this particular users problem.
Using nero to copy the disc, or worse still, using vcdgear \
to "fix" the mpeg, will likely result in the kind of errors jhcl
    has just run across.

I agree, using any program to fix the problem might have adverse effects, but copying a disk to disk should not have any effect on the data at all. It should copy it without doing anything.

Naturally if the source is bad, then error correction and ignore errors, is not going to make a good copy.. But that's another story.

only reason i can think of copying a file to the hard drive to burn is that it would be a faster burn and you are making multiple copies...

If you were making more than one copy, you tell the program you want more than 1

The time it takes to copy the file to the hard drive, would be the same time the disc copy program would take to read in the disk ready to burn.

Unless your going to burn one today and another tomorrow

its faster for me to copy from hard drive than to copy.... 20 min to copy from cd to cd and 4 min to copy from hard drive. so i can make 3 copies in the time it takes to make one copy from a cd

If its taking you that long, I should seriously think about upgrading your outdated equipment. 20 minuets is a joke. And since your making 3 copies at a time, this leads me to believe you distributing movies, probable even selling them.

and jus because i make more than several copies at a time doesnt mean i am selling movies... as we all know cds are not only made to make movies but they also make music and data. Perhaps I work for small companies distributing their software advertisements that I made for them. Anyways why the hell do you care why I am making copies for. just know your roll and STFU!

  19. If you want to copy a disc (any disc -- S/VCD included), I generally suggest CloneCD. It does a very good job. You can make an image first if you want to make multiple copies.

If you want to use CDRWin to make a CUE/BIN image first (but don't want to burn with CDRWin in demo mode), then you could always use CDRDAO. You can use the GUI included in VCDEasy or XDuplicator if you don't like command line tools.

Copying over the "DAT" file and then burning it shouldn't be required unless the original VCD was stuffed up in some way and you want to reauthor it.
