do u have a specific reason to go to mpg, like making vcds or sumthin? cuz otherwise u could just get a program like avi2mov, or use the divx or 3ivx mac codec if its divx video in an avi container. then later on, if u have quicktime pro, u could export to a different format other than avi, if u use one of those codecs to play yer movie in quicktime. sorry, this may be too complicating and u may not understand what im talkin about. just let me know the details, what ur lookin to do and why u wanna use mpg.

assuming you can play the AVI files on your iMAc ( not always true depending on compression I think) then you can just open then use quicktime PRo to export to .mov Try it, hope it works!

  4. Quicktime Pro will convert an AVI to a MOV file however you will need another program to encode into Mpeg2. You can use Final Cut Pro or a product like Cleaner 5 or 6 which will convert from Quicktime format to
Mpeg2. Both are pretty pricey just to convert to Mpeg2 but I am not familiar with a simple inexpensive program to convert to Mpeg from any format. I hope sombody else answers this because I am looking for the same type of product.
