  1. Can virtualdub be use on poor quility downloads to make look a little better or is it best to try to clear them up a bit with THMPEnc?

  2. Simple rule of thumb - crap in, crap out. You can try to "clean up" video, but if the quality is bad in the first place, you will not be able to make it much better, no matter what you use. If you want to try, I would recommend VirtualDub first.

    If you ever get better quality from crappy sources, it takes years of experience and days / week of filtering and encoding. Getting good quality from DVD sources is a lot easier than from VHS / crappy download sources. If you really need to get substantially better quality from whatever you videoclip/movie is, prepare yourself with some years of time to reach that goal. Otherwise, get the same movie from a better source.

  4. Thanks for the advise guys,but most of the downloads i get look pretty good til i encode them .Should I run them through more than once?I also need a few opinions on which encoder most people use to make there vcd's with the best quality,Or are svcd's the best way to go?

    SVCD is the way to go. With DVD2SVCD + CCE 2.50 you'll get good results easily. Tutorial @ www.doom9.org.
