  3. You need version 7.6 installed, but 7.7 I beleive only supports Radeon cards, cause I cant find a capture driver for my 128 to make TV work with 7.7

Willy, go to www.ati.com and download the most recent drivers and software for your ATI card and operating system. This will give you the most stable system settings.

I find it ridiculous and foolish to install drivers and software for your hardware that is not recommended by the manufacturer. I believe ATI should know what is the best drivers and software to use with their hardware.

  8. the way I understand it is - the capture hardware is the same on the AIW's so you can use the newer capture drivers with the older cards.
    It works for me

  9. exactly. the rage theater chip has been the same for 3 years now, and while ATI doesn't update it or even use all of its features, it releases new software for "radeon only" for two reasons.
1- they don't want to deal with the time consuming (expensive) process of fixing bugs related to older cards.
2- they want you to buy a radeon.

first, there's some problem with 7.6 that requires you to copy the wmvcore.dll and another dll to the winnt\system or system32 directory before the tv will work. ("tv did not initialize". someone posted this fix somewhere on this board or on rage3d.com . installing 7.5 first will fix this, as it puts the codecs in, it's just 7.6 that doesn't have them).

this is a stupid thing that requires WMV support, but if you get the codecs from MS or ATI you should be fine. there's another problem with 7.7 and its recording interface, that one file doesn't always install correctly, and prevents saving captures correctly, and someone posted a fix to that as well, which involves moving/renaming some files.

stay with 7.6 for now (i have 128 Pro). win2k, 5.13.1.3279, newest radeon capture drivers, MMC 7.6, but install the windvd codec instead of dvd 7.6. much faster rendering, plus no sync issues. all you need to do to get svcd compliance is cut or mux in TMPG, and if you're cutting commercials anyway it's no extra effort.

btw, the 7.7 upgrade will only install tv if it finds 7.6 tv, otherwise i think it uninstalls the feature.

ATI is a foolish company anyway. they make good hardware, but the drivers and support always lag behind. if i'd waited for stable drivers for the aiw 128 pro instead of mixing and matching, it would've wasted a whole year. but now that they're getting their act together driver-wise, they consider the 128 pro a 'discontinued' product, so no more support.
