  1. Anyone here know if it is possible? I want to take a clip from a DVD and put it onto a VCD/SVCD keeping the DTS audio track. I don't see why it couldn't be done, unless the format doesn't allow it...because they have DTS audio CD's. Let me know if it can be done, and what programs are needed. I use tmpeg for most of my standard encoding.

  2. No, it isn't possible.

S/VCDs must have the audio in MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio (SVCD has some additions) only.

You can have DTS on audio CDs because audio CDs are uncompressed. With this, you can put in the DTS bitstream.

The DTS bitstream will not survive MPEG compression.

  3. It will not survive MPEG compression, but it how about PCM? On a Laserdisc, the DTS tracks are put onto the digital PCM tracks. I was reading that you could put PCM audio onto a VideoCD. If I figure it out, I'll be sure to let everyone know.

No you can't. You cannot put PCM audio onto a VideoCD.

You can put CD-DA tracks AFTER the video tracks, but you cannot put PCM audio with the video.

Actually the VCD spec does allow for uncompressed PCM audio as the soundtrack to the MPEG video ... but uncompressed audio takes up so much space, using it defeats the purpose of compressed video in the first place.

  6. Could you tell me how this can/might be done? I just have a short clip anyway...about 30 seconds. Also, will using Smart Ripper and DVD2AVI get the DTS audio track out correctly?

That is news to me and I thought I knew most of the specs. Can you link to the relevant reference.

This intuitively doesn't seem correct as VCDs are designed to be read at 1x CD spin.
