AC3 audio is universally playable. If you don't have an AV amplifier then your player will down-convert it to stereo analogue.

DTS is arguably superior in sound quality, however it requires (in most cases) a separate decoding AV amplifier connected via an optical or coax digital link. It will not be down-sampled if you don't have one, so you get no audio at all if you cannot decode it. And it takes up 60 - 90 % more space than a 5.1 channel AC3 track.

If you have the kit, then you can keep it if you want. If you don't have the kit, or space is at a premium, take the AC3 5.1 instead.Read my blog here.

I agree with guns1inger - if you have the space keep the dts AND the ac3. DTS is generally better audio at a higher bitrate.

BUT if you are shrinking the disc to fit a single layer then remove the dts so you can preserve more picture quality while transcoding.

Also - do not do a dts audio only disc. It will most likely work on the majority of dvd players but you will only have sound through an amplifier that supports dts audio. It will not pipe through just the tv alone - unless it has dts decoder in it and those are extremely rare if one exists at all.Donatello - The Shredder?
