  1. I have done a number of SVCDs with Nero. They all play OK on my RCA VC125HF, but won't start automatically. They "Load" then Stop. When I push Play they play fine.

This has not been a problem until I tried Menus. I can create the menu Ok (using the procedure in the How To section here). I can select the tracks, including the Menu. However the menu items do not seem to be "selectable" (no highlights on the menu item). The DVD player indicates I should be able to do this, so I think I'm missing something and suspect it has to do with autoplay. Any ideas?

PS I can play this with WinDVD, using the menu button, I get a separate screen to select the item I want, but this is different than highlighting the menu item I want and having it play.

Auto-start is hardware dependent: your settop player's functionality determines if it will autoplay anydisc.

Hotspots, I believe, are either not supported in VCD/SVCD, or are so hard to create the mere mention of them will just generate new threads by newbies perplexed as to why they just can't do it right.

  3. The player does autostart with commercial DVD movies, just not the SVCDs I made with Nero. Also Chapter selection works fine on the Commercial DVDs, but Ican't get a highlight on the menus I made.

    Thanks

It sounds as if your player doesnt support autostart on VCD/SVCD playback, and that is normal. Hotspots on VCD/SVCD are not supported in the specs (at least I think I remember reading that in this forum a year or so ago).

I have a player (Daewoo 3000N) and it autostarts every kind of disc except MP3/data CDs. My portable DVD player, which is about a month or so newer than the settop, autostarts audio CDs and DVD's only, but not VCD/SVCD.

You know, autostart is a nice feature, but seeing as I've been pushing PLAY on the VCR for 25 years, it just doesnt seem to be that big a deal to push PLAY when I insert a VCD. Clearly I've had practice.

Thanks for the info, I've only been doing this for a few months. It's a pretty steep learning curve, and the only good source seems to be these forums. It's sometimes hard to know if it's me or the environment when it doesn't do what I expect.

Have you been able to make Chapters/Menus work with SVCD? As I said, I tried the Nero procedure from the "How To" section here. I can create a menu but no highlight on the items so I can select.

    Thanks for your reply
