If i can find a Pioneer 103 dvd-rw should i buy one since there seems to be problems with the 104?

What problems are you referring to? I've had a 104 since April and I've had no problems with it at all. I would get the 104.

If you use pioneer approved 2x dvd-r's then you can burn at 2x. If you use generics you'll be stuck at 1x. I think this is the same with both the 103 and 104.
