  1. I recently installed MMC 7.7 (it works even with 128 Pro) and found out there is a Standard format for SVCD capture (480x480.) Do I need to tweak some of the settings to enable it to play on my Sony DVP-560D player? I've also purchased those cheap (but highly recommended) STI digital media but my DVD player still can't recognize it. BTW, I used Nero to burn it to my CD-Rs using it's standard "Create VCD."

  2. Try "super video cd" in nero.

  3. I disagree with next's post. What next is talking about is getting the SVCD plugin (doesn't came free when you buy nero-addl. $30.00, however, you can get it for free). What he is sorta saying is that you capture at the 320 x 240 (or whatever xxx x 240 you can capture at with your card) and then have nero reencode it. I acquired the SVCD plugin (thanks again to my UK buddy), however, the quality wasn't what I was looking for.

    More trial and error had me acquiring powervcr II v3.0 off of ebay for $10.00. Applied a powervcr I patch and some registry tweeks (tweeks can be found on this site) and I was able to capture at true SVCD format (nero doesn't complain when you load it).

    I have captured VHS movies to SVCD and they look good (pixelation on fast motion scenes). Overall, the clarity is that a little below VHS tape (when you consider pixelation at high speed motion). I plan on pulling in at a higher bit rate and then reencoding using TMPGenc to the SVCD standard (there is also a registry tweek to reset the 30 day trial for SVCD compliance on this site).

  4. Sorry Macleod,

    But ATI MMC 7.7. now has an svcd template that captures 480x480. I think what Next was referring to was using the SVCD wizard in Nero versus the VCD wizard as noted in the original post.

    I have captured using the SVCD template in MMC 7.7 and burned with Nero with no complaints. Plays fine in my Audiovox 1680.

  5. I am using the ATI-TV wonder card and I always interpret (usually incorrectly) anything that says AIW as the TV wonder card, sorry. If anyone knows to get 7.7 working with ATI-TV wonder, I'd appreciate it!

  6. curbnoise,

    where did you end up finding the SVCD preset in MMC 7.7. The only one that I see is "good" and it is not Nero compliant.

  7. curbnoise - correct and thanks. i was simply saying in my way too short post that i thought the problem was that the original poster was trying to use the vcd profile in nero to burn a svcd as opposed to the svcd profile. if attempting to burn a svcd then use the svcd profile in nero. i'm not speaking to the svcd plugin at all.

  8. hey macleod - try this link. no guarantees because things like this can get a bit dicey but it may be of some help. here it is:

  9. roblog - start ati tv. click the setup icon. go to the digital vcr tab. click "set custom". scroll down amd see if you can find "super video cd". that's the preset. some say it's not there but give it a try.

  10. my custom setup does not have the setting for "super video cd".
    -------------
    what is the preset "current settings" for the super video cd template.
    i can easily record 480x480 mpeg-2 but it is not nero compliant.

    thanks

  11. I think MMC 7.7 doesn't install correctly on VIVO versions. The workaround is to look for the file "atidvcr.dll" in the MMC temporary installation folder, rename it to "atimpenc.dll", and place it under "program files\ati multimedia\main", overriding the 7.6 version.

    (This may be the same problem with TV wonder, but I didn't check)
    This should sove the missing SVCD preset, 48kHz capture and disapearing custom profiles.

    atidvcr.dll

    and

    in the Program files\ati multimedia\main Folder.

    Thanks.

  14. My version numbers are

    atimpenc.dll = 4.10.0.1382

    atidvcr.dll = 4.10.00.1303

    ATI 64MB VIVO AGP
    MMC 7.7

  15. The 13XX version numbers are from MMC 7.6.
    You should have the 15XX (7.7) for atidvcr.dll and atimpenc.dll

    I put these 2 files on my site at
    "http://pweb.jps.net/~olivierl/utils/atidvcr.zip"

    It contains the correct versions of both atidvcr.dll and atimpenc.dll for MMC 7.7
