can someone please tell me when creating a vcd\svcd in TMPGEnc what settings, in each tab, must stay the same to retain a vcd\svcd 'compliant'![]()

Use the supplied template appropriate to the job you are doing and it should be compliant to the chosen standard.

i was looking at 'tweaking' settings that do not effect the vcd/svcd compliance. Can anyone help?
-
If you want a standard compliant VCD then You are allowed to change nothing.
But standard is over rated....go non-standard and you can "tweak" anything. -
Hi MaDmiZe
My only problem with that is nero is the only option to burn it without re-encoding. I have tried Ulead MovieFactory & Workshop and Cyberlink Powerdierctor Pro Disc Wizard none allow full freedom to have a non-compliant xvcd/xsvcd. I don't remember how i got to the xvcd (352x288 with mpeg 2) TMPGEnc template i use now (no blocks, great quality) but i want to see what the quality would be like if i changed the setting that are needed to make it a vcd/svcd and leave the rest the same.
Thanks for your help so far. -
You are saying that you dont want to use NERO. Even though NERO allows VCD or SVCD to be non-compliant...By just unchecking standard compliance....??
If you have a good template that is non standard...just keep using....
but if you want to know what standard is I'll list it ....
VCD must be mpeg1 352x240, 29.97fps, CBR 1150 kbps video and 224 kbps audio.
SVCD must be mpeg2 480x480, 29.97, 2520 kbps video and 224 kbps audio. (the SVCD doesn't seem to say what the bitrate must really be encoded as CBR ...VBR, mine was at CQ which means the bitrate can change)
Is that what you wanted? -
Sorry my fault about the confusion. I want to use Ulead MovieFactory or Workshop after i have encoded with TMPGEnc to a 'compliant' file that it will accept without re-encoding (changes it to crap quailty). Honesty some of the result using programs like these are worse than VHS but the settings i have now produce a quality equal at the least mainly due to using a high bit rate with mpeg2 but at only 352x288(PAL). If i use the stardard svcd size (720 X 576 off the top of my head) it gets blocky (less bitrate per pixel)
So MaDmiZe are you saying that all the other settings can be anything that you want as long as you follow the standards you mentioned,
size/frame per second/etc.?
Thanks -
I think for any thing "standard " other than what I listed .....would depend on the program that you want to import it into.
What does Ulead MovieFactory or Workshop consider standard??? We would have to check that....But I would try a sample as above... say five minute movie clip (to cut down on your encoding time) and see if the program accepts it as standard...then you know for certain. -
Can I ask a Question here as well I didnt want to start another thread I hope you dont mined
Anyway im just converting DVD's
I rip it use dvd2 to convert to dv2 and wav then when i load them into tmpeg all is great works but i just wanted to know how can we get rid of that letter box screen i dont want that to show up I want it in full screen..
The setting im using in Tmpeg is a basic standard PAL vcd to covert but im sure its something to do with the 16.4 or 4.3 ratio but Ive tried and tried and couldnt find the function to do it...
The strange thing is that some dvd rips have the full screen others dont not that i really mined a letter box screen but i would prefer a full screen if anyone can help much appreciated -
Ok..in standard VCD(pal) template you can change the source ratio but not the output ratio....(for that you would need to unlock template)
How you can set the source ...goto settings...Under advanced tab set up source as say 4:3 then before you click start to encode >>click on file>> then preview....thats what your output will look like.....go back and change settings to 16:9(and so on) and repeat (to see what happens) or till it looks good to you.
You can also change what is called the "video arrange method" from full screen(keep aspect ratio) down to No margin (keep aspect ratio) that will also affect the way the video ends up.....Play with both of these. I cant tell you what to use because no two of mine in a row are the same ...I experiment each time....
When you are happy with preview...then encode. -
Read the Help file that came with the program, it says the following
NTSC Media Type Frame Size Audio Frequency (Hz) Video Data Rate(kbps) Audio Bit Rate(kbps)
DVD MPEG 2 352 x 240352 x 480704 x 480720 x 480 48000 391~9695 96~384
VCD MPEG 1 352 x 240 44100 391~1280 96~384
SVCD MPEG 2 480 * 480 44100 391~2653 96~384
PAL Media Type Frame Size Audio Frequency (Hz) Video Data Rate(kbps) Audio Bit Rate(kbps)
DVD MPEG 2 352 x 288352 x 576704 x 576720 x 576 48000 391~9695 96~384
VCD MPEG 1 352 x 288 44100 391~1280 96~384
SVCD MPEG 2 480 x 576 44100 391~2653 96~384
Notes:
All video files used in the project must have the same frame size.
For DVD video files, if the audio frequency is below 48000 Hz it will be treated as an extended SVCD
(XSVCD) video file eventhough the other attributes conform to DVD video specifications. This extended format
might bring you incompatibility problems with the general popular disc players.
good luck
