    Hi,
Avid Express DV is sort of a top of the range proffesional editing solution. I don't think you need a high end package other packages are capable of capturing from DV over firewire.

In what way is you DV footage bad? Where was it recorded from a DV Camera? Are you using good tapes?

Also what are you using for playback?

    Hi,

a friend of mine told me that i had to have a video capturing card..? and that a firewire card wasnt enough
Not so. The camera is the video capture device (equivalent to a capture card in this case). The firewire connection just transfers the already digital video stream to the computer and can't affect the quality in any way assuming it actually transfers OK. In this case firewire is very similar to transferring a file from one HD to another.

If you playback the tapes from the camera directly to a TV is the quality OK? If not, the camera may not be digitizing to the highest DV quality. (I have no knowledge of camera specs)

You should be trying to make at least SVCDs or high bitrate XVCDs with the inherent quality of DV.

The cam im using is a JVC GR-DVX88E and im using Sony tapes non of that shouldnt be a problem after what ive heard! The computer im using is a p4 1700 Mhx 256 Ram and 180 GIG harddrive and that should be enoght too..

And the qulity is great when i watch it directly to my tv from the DVcam
