  1. Hi,

I've been playing with a Hauppauge Wintv nova-t card. I seem to eventually be creating mpegs fine with the standard hauppauge software, the mpegs created play back fine in windows media player, yet when I try to open the mpeg files in VirtualDub, I get

'MPEG Import Filter: pack synchronization error'

I presume the mpegs aren't corrupt as they play back fine in windows media player, with no problems at all, the quality is quite good too.

Anyone know why this might be happening?

Is there any way around it?

Oh, it happens with every single file that I create with this wintv nova-t card, it's not a one off thing, it's every single mpeg created with it.

    Thanks

    Ashak

VirtualDub runs a check over the MPEG structure when it loads a file.
It mainly checks that all Groups of Pictures (GOP) are correctly aligned and if needed closed. If not it gives this error - you can also see this downloading MPEG's from P2P sharers - they sometimes get corrupted.
Media player ignores this checks and just plays back frames as it finds them.
It appears that you encoder is not completly finishing the files off...?
I'm sorry I don't know why it is doing this - I had a look at the Hauppauge web page but could not find the nova-t card so I can't help further

You may be able to demux and remux in Tmpegenc and try that

  3. Ok, right, i'll try that then.

I've also noticed Virtualdub won't open SVCD mpeg's? Could this due to TMpgEnc outputting none finished mpg's too or something then?

THanks for the reply btw. I'll try the demux remux thing, see if it helps.

No VirtualDub is not designed to open MPEG2 video which is what a SVCD stream is.
Check out the VirtualDub web site to see what it can and cannot support
    See the links page
