I recently downloaded a movie file over one of those peer-to-peer programs and now I'm trying to burn it w/ NERO so I can watch it on my DVD player at home. Well, at the time I had to use someone's computer who had a faster connection. I chatted with the person I was going to obtain the file from and they said it was the file "was complete". It was a movie and I didn't want it to be only be like 30 minutes worth..he said it wasn't so. So I downloaded, and burned it a disc..so I can bring it back to my computer here. The file itself, was in ASF format and I had to watch it from beginning to end.. so I just decided to burn it there and deal with watching it later.

So, I opened the file up at my home and converted it to AVI.. simple enough. BTW, in case your wondering.. I just use AVI because NERO seems to have an easier time just converting this format for burns, rather then sticking with MPEG. Who knows? Either way, when I added the file to NERO, it gave the lengh of the file.. 60 minutes. So I started the burn at 4X <--- if this does matter.

Well, last night I tried to watch it on my DVD player and it played until 30 minutes into the movie.. then it would just freeze and wouldn't budge. So I burned it again.. and the same thing happened. It was weird.

So, to test everything.. I watched the complete movie in the AVI file that I converted on my desktop tonight. And..the file cuts off 30 minutes into the movie and bounces back to the beginning. O.K., so the file was short all along? The guy lied to me.. on the net? Maybe so. Though, how come when I first pulled it up on NERO.. the bar raised the file to a full 60 minute run?

Is this a simple problem with the ASF/AVI format.. that I just fix or do I need to download it again? The file completed at 100%..so it wasn't cut short. I know with ASF files when you first watch 'em.. they will give the lenghth of the file in the beginning..on the Windows Media Player itself. Does this matter? Just checking.

Thanks.
