  1. Can anyone tell me if Premiere 6.0 supports AVI's captured through the Dazzle Hollywood Bridge from analog sources. I used the Dazzle Digital Creator which only produces MPG 1 for about a year 'till it broke after trying to capture directly into Premiere. Then everything got wierd and the device stopped being recognized even by Dazzle's software "Moviestar". Don't know if that is what broke the device. Anyhow, I want to try the Hollywood Bridge because I'm capturing from commercial VHS movies and DVDs for a project and I know Dazzle products to not recognize copy protection. (The Dazzle Creator captured flawlessly from commercial movies and DVDs) It doesn"t matter if the Hollywood Bridge can't capture directly into Premiere as long as I can import the AVI's and edit them. By the way, I did convert some of my Mpgs to AVIs with Virtual dub, but the quality degraded abit--that is why I want to capture to AVIs. I use a PIII 800MHz with 512mb Ram and a dedicated 60gb hard drive. Any comments, tips or suggestions appreciated. Thx in advance.

  2. I have been using the Dazzle DV Bridge for several months now and have been quite happy with it. I am lazy and take the DV produced by the DV Bridge and capture straight to MPEG-1 using Ulead VideoStudio6. MPEG-2 captures this way have some dropped frames, but I haven't been concerned since I have been putting MPEG-1 on CD as VCD. I also have an I/O Magic PVR with CyberLink PowerVCR II software. I just started experimenting and using the PVR software to capture the DV straight into MPEG-2. I have been happy with the results so far and will try a 1 hr episode of Farscape later. The only thoing that's given me better analog to DV conversion than the DV Bridge is when I feed the analog through my Sony camcorder and then into my PC, but I worry about wear and tear on my camera.
Haven't used Premiere. but I would exp[ect the DV Bridge to give it excellent DV avi.

  3. I have had my Hollywood Dv for a little over a month now and I love it. I have it hooked up to my direct tv using the s-video in to the bridge and using the firewire into the pc. I have used various software to test out for the best quality. I used Movie Factory and DVD Workshop and got some decent quality captures though with Movie Factory I actually had an interlaced problem with a PPV event I captured and put on two DVDrs.

I then stumbled upon Power VCR II 3.0 and have been using that and capturing directly to Mpeg-2. Not bad quality at 720X480 but when I go full screen on the computer it looks like VHS quality. Kind of a bad idea since I am usually converting my caps to divx 5.02.

I have been experimenting with Power Director 2 Pro but havent had much time to devote to it.

My question is why when I capture at 720X480 using the bridge, dont I get the crisp clear DVD quality on my store bought ones? Could it be because I am capturing using s-video? Does anyone make a Direct Tv box that supports firewire for capturing?

Capturing to 720x480 is dvd quality, but the video had to be in dvd quality to begin with.

TV signal is not 720x480, so you can't really have DVD quality, but you will have a nice picture

I have been trying to do just that, input analog video through my Sony DV camera into the Firewire port. Using the Pinnacle Studio 7 software for DV capture, I cannot capture "live" video, only taped video. I contacted Pinnacle who said that there was no way to capture live video.

It appears from your, and others', comments that some of you have been able to use a DV camera to accomplish the analog to DV through Firewire conversion. Any direction would be appreciated!

I'm using a DV Bridge and a DCR for capturing everything: live Video, sat, VCR,DVD and so on without problems (only 1 dropped frame/minute).I'm using the DVApp, which is supplied weith the DirectX 8.1 SDK.
