  1. Hi

I'm trying to create a VCD with Nero to play back on my standalone DVD. A VCD with like 30 pics on it, no problem, but with 600 on it the disc is not readable. Why's that ? Is there a max or something ?

    Thanx

if you intend to receive any helpful clues from anyone on here, you have to work with them. this means that you have to provide information.

what kind of dvd player do you have?
how large are these picture files?

Yes, there is a max. It is 1980 items.

I use VCDEasy and succesfully made a disc with 1000+ photos.
With some programming of my own, I managed to play them randomly. Well, it is not really random, but it comes close.

  4. Thank you for replying

Sorry, the player is Kenwood DVF 3550, burning with Nero 5.5.7.8 on Philips CD/RW 74 min. The pics are all 1600x1200, all about 700-800Kb. I'm burning with an index on PAL.

I'm not nearly close to the max I see, what's the problem here ?

I am not sure how Nero does it, but it is possible that Nero doesn't make still pictures, but rather small MPEG movies. There is a limit of 98 MPEG movies. I don't use Nero for (S)VCDs for a long time.

Use VCDEasy. Convert your pictures to MPEG stills of 704x480 NTSC or 704x576 PAL first. You can find it in the tools window of VCDEasy.
Be sure to activate "Analyze MPEG files" before you add your stills. Otherwise VCDEasy assumes that they are MPEG movies instead of MPEG stills. Not really a problem, but you'll have to uncheck them all manually to tell VCDEasy that they are pictures and not movies.

  7. Nero does create still pictures.

    I did notice two things:
    1) it is really really fast to drag JPEG files to Nero (if it convert to MPEG, it would take much longer time)
    2) when playing the photo VCD, the picture looks very shart, clear (704x480 resolution)

When I create MPEG files from my still photos to burn as VCD, the result is very different:
    1) the picture look like sh... (due to the 352x240 resolution)
    2) of course I have to spend time to encode to MPEG.
