  1. I'm using TMPGENC 2.54a for encoding and it works great (when it does) but it freezes my computer more often than allowing the video to finish encoding and when it freezes my comp there's no coming back for it. The only to unfreeze it is to restart my computer manually (by the button on the case) I saw the problem of TMPGENC freezing but not locking up the entire system! Is there an older version that doesn't have this problem or another freeware MPEG1 and/or 2 that works just as well?
    Thanks in advance!

  2. What operating system are you using? I'm using TMPGEnc 2.54 plus running under Windows 98SE and haven't encountered that problem. There have been a couple of times when it froze trying to process corrupted or broken files, but I could close it with the CTL-ALT-DEL & END TASK bit.

Are you using Windows XP? I've read about some problems with TMPGEnc & Windows XP.

  3. does it do it on almost all movies, or just a certain one? it happened too me on one particular movie and i ended up having too convert the audio from the movie to a .wav file and then convert with TMPGEnc.

  4. I had the same problem at first when just learning how to encode etc but after I set all the specs to thr right settings I haven't had it lock up at all. I set it to encode multiple movies and it works fine. I am using version 2.55 on Windows ME.

Try upgrading the to the newest version and see if that helps also make sure you don't have anything else running, even a screen saver. Just turn off monitor and check it once in awhile to see if it is still encoding.

    Good Luck!

    Hi,

My experience is that this is often caused by something bad in the source file.

  6. GRRR...The new version 2.55 does the same thing. I'm running win98. This isn't a source problem because it happens on all videos I've tried. I've heard that 2.53 is more stable does anyone know where i can find it since the TMPGENC official web site only has the latest version. Other than going to 2.53 is there anything else I can do?
    Thanks again!
