  1. I've followed to guide step by step and everything works fine until I need to burn the VCD, EasyVCD didn't seem to register my bruner so I downloaded CDRWIN and burnt by VCD there, but, when I try to play my VCD on my DVD player it doesn't read. Am I doing something wrong here? Thanks for the replies!

I take it you never made a VCD before ?. AND you know your DVD player will play VCD's, AND your using good quality disks ?

CDRWIN ?, gosh I have not use that in some time, so it makes VCD's as well now... Oh well.....

So you downloaded a AVI, checked it for bad frames in Vdub, then made a fully compliant VCD mpeg1with TMPGENC, using a VCD template ?

Then you split the mpeg in half if it was too big ?

Then you used that mpeg with CDRWIN

Well I use Video Pack 5.1, or Nero so cant help with CDRWIN, but was the above correct ?

  4. Hmm...yes it is my first time, my DVD plays cd-r's b/c it can play burned audio cd's. My movie is properly coded to Mpeg1 and I just needed to burn it, however, CDRWIN asked only for the .cue of my movie file... I'll give it another shot...my first steps were correct but I believe I may have burnt it wrong...is there a good in depth guide to how to burn VCD's out there? Thanks to all those that replied

Sorry, but that makes NO difference, many play audio disks, and they don't play VCD's.

No I'm not going to install CDRWIN, just to find out does it make VCD's ? Strange if its asking for a cue file, then you would think the ISO has already been made by a "VCD authoring program" like Nero, Easy Cd Creator (VCD creator) or Video Pack 5

OK, I popped along to CDRWIN, so where does it say it makes VCD's ?, Then only thing I can think of it would only make a VCD out of an ISO, which had already been made in a authoring program.

Are you copying the Mpeg1 file to a ordinary CDR as a data file ?

Download a copy of Nero, it does make VCD's

is there a good in depth guide to how to burn VCD's out there?
Yes I heard that www.vcdhelp.com is cool.

Thank you so much for your replies! I downloaded Nero oand will give that a try...unfortunately I made a few coasters with my last few attempts and will have to wait till tommorow to try again
BUT... hopefully this will work! I'm not entirely sure if I'm doing this correctly at all... My movie has been encoded and converted to an Mpeg1 I've got this .bin files and everything and followed

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm

to the T. I'll get back to you and let you know if it works!

    Thanks again!

  7. Not sure why you are messing with a .bin file if you have a proper MPEG1 file. (You do have a MPEG file - can you play it with Windows Media player?)

Here's what you need to do. Open Nero.

Close the Wizard if it opens.

On the New Compilation screen, scroll down until you see Video-CD and click the NEW button in the upper right corner.

Drag your MPEG (.mpg) file into the large file area on the left.

Nero will check your file and let you know if it is indeed a true VCD compatible MPEG1 file (not all MPEG 1 files are VCD compatible)

Click the 8th icon from the left (Opens the Write CD Dialog)

You can pretty much just hit write at this point (you may want to uncheck Simulation if you feel confident in your systems speed).

That's all there is to it. No need to mess with .bin/.cue files or CDRWin. I also don't recommend writing .bin/.cue files with NERO. You are better off using either CDRWin or VCDEasy (see tools)

What I want to know is.... Where did the bin file come from, if the conversion was from AVI to Mpeg, what came next ?

If it plays a burned audio CD, it should play a burned VCD. As far as I know the vast majority, if not all, DVD players support the VCD format. The reason many players dont play (burned) VCD's is because they dont support the CDR/RW format.

This is plain wrong. You need to look up your player in the DVD player section. Many, many players play audio CD or CD-R or CD-RW even but do not play VCD and/or SVCD and/or miniDVD.

Check your player - if it is listed as verified that it will play VCDs then check your burning method. If you put your completed VCD in a CD-ROM drive in the PC there should be like 5 directories including MPEGAV. If you see a bin & cue file on the disc it is not authored as VCD but as a data disc and that does not play at all.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  12. if it is just the problem with vcdeasy not recognizing your burner, why dont you try using "force aspi" that might help the program with making your burner recognizable. it worked for me. try a search for force aspi in yaoo or something.

  14. AGHHHHHHHHHHH!

This is peice is still refusing to work! Okay...so I downloaded Nero...I got the demo version. Found my Mpeg1, added to the list and burnt it. Checked my DVD player on this list and it I know it plays VCD's b/c I own like 12 of them and everything checks out. When I load my VCD on my computer I get 5 folders. CDI EXT MPEGAV SEGMENT & VCD. Is there a foolproof way of checking if it will play properly before I burn it?
    Thanks!

  15. another question...

if my dvd player can play a certain brand of Cd-R (Fuji Film) as an audio Cd. Does that mean that is should automatically pick up my FujiFilm as a VCD when I make it??

    THANKS A LOT!!!!!!!!

    DVD-RW DVD+R?
    DVD+RW VCD SVCD

    Tracks XVCD
    2500kbit/s
    XSVCD
    2500kbit/s MP3
    WMA

Your DVD Player only reads a FEW Cdr. This means the type of CD-R u are using probably doesnt work in the DVD player u have.

Most of us go to the "DVD Players" option in the left hand column. Select it, and type the brand name in the blank. A list of all the manufacturer's models appear. We select the player we want the "low-down" on, and read the members' comments and make our decision based on them. As for your case, the following apply:

Richard Hanson says STI Digital CD-Rs work
Brad Nelson says Hi-Val CD-RWs work
    Pleased says Princo CD-Rs work
and Reb says Memorex 80 min CD-Rs work.

The list goes on and on, it seems. I wish more people would have commented on my model. The eight that did comment did not give me enough to go on, but I wish you well, as it seems you are in luck. It appears a lot more members use your model. Take care!
