  1. Hello Everyone can u please help me??

I'm now trying for months to convert this asf file i have to mpg 1 vcd.
First it didn't work cause the tmpeg enc version i had didnt support this asf format. The new version i have can convert the asf to mpg 1.
The fine thing is; when i convert the asf to mpg the quality of the screen gets much better, the bad thing is; the sound gets really fucked up. The sound in the mpeg gets scratched and ticked . After that i tried to only convert the asf to mpg and record the sound alone. This did work i had a wav and a mpg without sound. Than i wanted to add these together, but this doesnt work too. The picture and the sound are not synchron to each other; you can see something happen, and you will hear the sound 3 secs later. This sucks too. Isnt there another way to convert asf to proper good mpgs. I tried to use virtual dub 1.3 c too but it doesnt work cause it says the file is to long and it gives some other strange error too. than i tried to reindex the asf file with asf cut but i didnt get anything of that.

My next question is: when i look at burning vcds with nero 5 it says mono sound and streaming video (i think asf is?) aren't allowed for vcd. But you can go further if you want altough, do you guys think the vcd will work with mono sound an streaming screen too?

I know this is much i'm asking but i would love to be helped by one of you!
    thnx

Hmm, well, I'm hardly an expert, and, luckily for myself, I haven't had this problem of sound going out of synch, possibly because I work with only small files. You could see if the asf is messed up and try recreating/repairing it with the ASFtools program, or a better choice most likely would be getting a copy (even the demo from the site will do fine) of EOVideo to convert it. I've used EOVideo for .mov files with excellent (if slow) results, maybe it would work well for .asf files? Please post up here if you try either one and it works, so the rest of us can learn as well.
Sorry I can't be of more help. ^_^
    Good luck!

Hmm, have you tried right clicking on the download link then saying Open In New Window? Then do the same for the link at the top of the next page, that should get you to the next link which is the actual download.
    Or go here:
    http://www.minots.de/1user/asftools/download.php
That's where those links eventually end up.
Hmm, well, I can't say for sure why there aren't more asf conversion programs, part of it may be because Microsoft doesn't really like people being able to do it, from what I understand, and I believe you have to pay them a liscencing fee or something in order to legally have it as part of the program. I'm not sure. Plus, streaming formats, RM, ASF, etc, just plain suck. I honestly have no idea why anyone puts videos in streaming format (ESPECIALLY RM!) for use other than what it's intended to be. Some idiots apprently just enjoy using them for everything I guess.
Anyways, I could gripe and bitch about streaming media all day long and that's not gonna help you any but maybe it'll get others more knowledgable to jump on the topic here and give you better answers than I can, either way good luck with getting that converted.
BTW, I would definetely try the EOVideo and see how the file turns out.
ASFtools can also be found at:
    http://www.stokebloke.com/video/
There is a program called Graphedit that supposedly can convert to avi format from asf, I haven't had much luck with it before, but here's a link to it if you wanna try it out.
