Does anyone know what brand of drive the Terapin uses? I have one that doesn't recognize any discs (including Terapin CD-Rs) and am certain the burner is fried. Terapin quotes a replacement at $186 + labor. I know that I can install a CDRW drive without mishap - I just want to ensure that I use the correct one. :P
Remember to use the CONSUMER or AUDIO grade CDR media in your Terapins: Using cheapies is exactly what toasted my drive.

I understand that the CD-RW drive used in the Terapin was made by Philips. I do not know the model number or write speeds.

Thanks,
That's a good start - the write speed is probably very low, maybe 2X - die to the limitations they place on media. I actually have a Philips CDRW laying around, I wonder.....
