  1. I tried making my first VCD and it was sloooooooooooww. It did 10% in 21 minutes. Is that how slow it is for all of you? I have a p4 1.7ghz or that doesn't make a diff.?

Also, I tried making a SVCD. I couldn't do it 'cause it asked me for a plugin. Did you all, who make svcds, buy that mpeg2 plugin from nero.com?

  2. Did it take 21 minutes to burn 10% of the VCD, or did it take 21 minutes to convert to the VCD mpg format?

I know it takes me about 30minutes to burn a 60minute VCD, because I have it write at 2x.

It takes me about 3 hours to convert an 20 minute avi to VCD mpg format. I have 256MB of RAM, and a 400Mz AMD 3-d Now!

Sorry, but I have no idea about the SVCD plugin, though.

  3. send me your email address to discuss nero.

With a slower computer it will take awhile to convert a file from anything to a compliant VCD/SVCD format.

I have an emachine 1.2 gig and nero 5.X and it takes about 20 minutes to convert a 30 min movie.

  4. If you have a fast burner like 16x, it will only take 4 minutes or so to burn a full disk. However, if you put a non-compliant file in Nero, it has to convert the file. If it's a DV file, the encoding takes forever. If you try SVCD, it will take many hours to make a 20 minute disk. However, it doesn't burn the disk for this time, but it encodes the file for burning. AVI to mpeg is often a very slooooooow process.

  5. I takes about 30 minutes for me to burn a vcd/svcd. I have the Nero plug-in as well. The time consumer is the conversion to mpeg1 or mpeg2 for nero.

  6. I thing Space007 may be asking the same question that I would like to know the answer to and that is, how long should it take to convert the AVI file to Mpeg1 using TMPGEnc.

Being a Newbie who is desperatly searching for an alternative supply of movies to the fast dwindling PPV sat world, I have only coverted and written a couple of files.

When I converted Changing Lanes part 1, which was a 174 meg AVI to Mpeg1 (474 Meg) using TMPGEnc, it took an astonishing 5 hours 30mins.

Surely there would not be this much interest in VCD if it takes this long every time. It took 11 hours to convert the whole film and 40 mins to write it. Is this right, or am I doing something wrong. By the way I also tried Nero 5.5 which like many people say is a bag of shit for conversions, it just kep freezing.
