  1. Guys-

I stumbled across something today. This may be a lucky fluke for me. But I have been ripping DVD's to my hard drive then outing them to my vcr and taping them for backups. This helps me keep the destructive "kids" paws off the dvds.....

I use windvd and today I downloaded POWERDVD off of Kazza. I then stumbled across a needed patch for the player at the players main site. I installed the patch. Loaded a DVD into the drive and guess what? NO MACROVISION!!!

I almost crapped my pants? What could have happened? Has anyone else had this same thing happen to them? I downloaded NO tweeks or software. Just the 4.0 Player and the patch off of the site. Could this just be a lucky fluke? If so I will never restore my PC again!!LOL...... Now it could not have been the persons actuall file in the player, becaue the macro was there yesterday and gone today after the patch install? Go figure???

Hope this info can help anyone out with thier macro nightmares... Its just as easy to rip the DVD to the hard drive and play it out to the vcr. But being able to play the actual dvd saves some ran into headaches. Like missing audio or wrong language issues..

    Check it out...

  4. Sling-

All I did was download powerdvd off of Kazza. Which gave me the full use and key. I then went to thier site and saw there was an update patch. I installed the update and NO MORE MACRO. My win dvd and my ati player still have it..

I just rented "Don't say a word" last night and it played fine with no macro.

I am NOT ripping it. I am playing thru powerdvd to my ati radeon to my VCR. Then taping it... Playback is fine. Just like SVHS....

To me its quicker than making a vcd with 2 disks. You just have to wait for the darn thing to rewind all the time...... But hey for a .50 cent tape and for $3.50 to rent the DVD. I'll take a movie for $4.00 even if it is on vhs....

Oh yeah I fixed my sound issue. HP has TWO sound outputs on thier new models. I never knew this. I had my plug plugged into the headphone jack. Now its loud as heck.....

    Thanks

I use WinDVD but have tried several programs with the same problem. Once I rip the VOB, I can't select the proper language track without going through the DVD2AVI and encoding.

How do you select the proper language track from the VOB for playback without encoding?

  7. All I gotta say is that I just reformated my PC today. I lost everything. I re-downloaded it off of kazza and the patch off the site. And still NO MACRO DRACO......

All USA DVDs have macrovision signals on them.....

  9. Iverson-

Macrovision is a copyright protection... It allows you NOT to copy VHS tapes and DVDs.

You can run a PC video card out to a tv and you will get NO macro. You can then run the card to a VCR and the VCR recieves the macrovision signal from the DVD and enables the macrovision. The picture gets either light and dark or all funky lookin'.

By disabling the macro you can run the dvd thru a vcr and NO macro...

At least thats what I do... I make backups of my dvds so my kids can't get thier distructive fingers on them... I'd rather wear out a vhs tape than ruin a dvd....

Hope that somewhat summs it up for ya...

you could try ripping the dvd to the hard disk (smartripper), removing the dvds macrovision and region coding then play the dvd back in a software player > to your tv out card and record on vcr
