  1. I bought a Pinnacle Linx adapter and could not get Studio to capture video. When I start to actually capture Studio locks up. So I thought I would use virtualdub with huffyuvu to compress. The instructions to install huffyuvu say to right click on the inf and choose install. I have windows 2000 and when I right click I do not get an option to install. Can anyone help?

    Thanks:

  2. Have you extracted the files out of the ZIP file?

Windows 2000 doesn't support some functions on files inside a ZIP file, even though it lets you see the contents.

Copy the files out of the ZIP file into a regular folder, then try right-clicking the INF file. I admit you may have tried this already.

  3. Thanks for the reply. I had copied the files to temp. Is there anything else I can do to install it?

  4. Sorry to say, that's the only suggestion I've got--it sometimes happened to people using Windows ME, but all they had to do was copy the files.

Maybe there's something else about Windows 2000. Does ANYTHING useful show up when you right-click?

  5. Nope nothing useful. Is there a directory that the dll's should be copied to?
    Thanks:

  6. Well, we could try the brute-force approach.

Click the Start menu and choose Run.

    In the Run window, type:

    rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 fullpath

Enter the exact, full pathname of the inf file, complete with file extension. Also make sure the dll is in the same folder as the inf file--the installer will copy it to its final location and update all your registry keys. If it works, a "file copy" window will flash briefly on the screen; if it fails, it'll give a terse "install failed" message with no further explanation. The results are unpredicable if you mistype anything on the command-line; even the capitalization matters, except for the pathname.

This is how Windows 2000 would normally interpret the install command from right-clicking an INF file. I tested this on my office machine and it seems to work.
