  1. hi advanced conversion peeps

ive recently converted a couple of ntsc divx movies to mpeg 2 and authored dvdr with the resulting files.
here is the order of wat i do

1.extract audio from the 23fps divx avi to raw wav with vdub
2.extract video from the 23fps divx avi with no audio
3.encode the video with 25fps dvd pal template in tmpeg using the do not frame rate convert tick box
4.timestretch the wav to match video duration and convert to 48000mhz with wavelab or sound forge 5
5.import the files into dvdit pe and create the menu
    6.burn with dvdit pe

all is well but the playback is jerky on some standalone players and the ps2 dvd player is this because im changing framerate??.
wat i wondered is would it be better to change the framerate of the avi in vdub before encoding to mpg2 to get rid of the jerky playback?
is their a way of testing the resulting audio and video files for sync before authoring ? eg multiplexing ac3 and m2v files or just create a simulated dvd folder?
any help on cutting down the risk of coasters would be gratefully recieved

    nice one

This seems to be a recurrent theme. If you change framerate the result will be jerky to some extent. I used to change from NTSC(film) to PAL. The framerate change is not great, but it is noticeable. PAL to NTSC to is much more noticeable. Basically, if you can get away with it, don't do it. Fortunately, both my DVD players will play all formats, so the answer for me is to retain the original framerate.

If you think what actually is happening going from PAL to NTSC, you can't create more unique frames, so some get repeated. Hence a jerky outcome. PAL to NTSC(film) is not so drastic, but frames have to be dropped, which also means a jerky outcome.

Basically, the answer is that all you with problems come to live over here, and then we can go over there. You can have perfectly playing movies, and we can have cheap petrol, cheap internet access and good weather. 8)
